RIS – Software Development Student
Job Description:
The Research Information Systems (RIS) team is looking for a student worker to assist with software development. Work will entail the entire software development life cycle; including analysis, design, implementation, testing and maintenance. Focus will be on expanding the main electronic research administration (eRA) system called NUgrant; a Web-based application using PHP and Microsoft’s SQL Server. Explore new technologies and programming practices; sharing ideas with the RIS team to further develop its effectiveness. Strong communication, organizational and interpersonal skills are a must along with excellent research and analytical skills. A willingness and ability to work both independently and within a strong team environment is critical. Experience working on software projects that include Web development, relational databases, scripting and object oriented programming languages is desired, but not required; this includes PHP and/or Java, HTML, XML, JavaScript, CSS and MSSQL or MySQL. Familiarity with the Eclipse IDE, Subversion, and Apache httpd is a plus. As an intern of the Development team, you will be working directly with the development team on internal research and development projects in the area of social gaming utilizing data connected mobile applications. This position is based in our La Vista, NE office.

Sandhills Publishing produces newsstand and consumer magazines such as Smart Computing, PC Today, Computer Power User (CPU), and CE Lifestyles. They also publish trade (advertising only) publications for buyers and sellers of aircraft, trucks, heavy machinery, agricultural, and computer equipment. Sandhills Publishing owns these publications, therefore everything from designing the layouts, writing the editorial, marketing the publications, advertising sales, designing computer systems and web sites for internal and external customers, printing and binding the publications, etc is done in-house.
Qualifications:
· Strong background using technology and Web 2.0 applications in an educational context.
· Must have knowledge of HTML, XHTML. Knowledge of CSS and JavaScript desired but not required.
· Experience with Adobe Dreamweaver, Photoshop and Acrobat.
· Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills.
· Knowledge or a strong interest in international education and cross-cultural exchange is a plus.
We’re looking for someone who can work independently and initiate action as needed. Must be team-oriented, demonstrate a professional attitude, be prompt and reliable, and in good academic standing. Preferred: Intention to work at least two academic years. Salary to be determined.

MS Office Access programming guru needed! The Food Processing Center needs a skilled MS Office Access programmer to automate data manipulation and data transfer activities for two of our current client service project reports. Source data resides in a series of MS Office Excel and Word files. These files are reviewed by an analyst and specific products are selected for inclusion in one of two final reports. Data for the selected products are then transferred to a standard/fixed report format involving 350 to 400 individual data entries.
