Computer Science Summer Internship Opportunity – Lincoln, NE

ACTON Marketing is seeking a summer intern majoring in Computer Science. The intern will work closely with programmers
from the IT and analytical departments to help develop reporting systems, track internal job processes, create web pages to view and modify database elements, and assist in ad-hoc programming requests. The intern will gain hands on experience
applying the concepts of the software development life cycle (SDLC) to both new and existing development projects.

The candidate should be experienced with the ASP.NET development environment (using VB.NET). A working knowledge of
SQL is strongly encouraged. Familiarity with web services is a plus.

7. Ability to interpret UML models and suggest improvements to designs.

4. Dynamic content with dynamic URLs and 100% database-generated web pages.
9. Ability to work efficiently and tackle problems in a timely manner with minimal supervision.

Education and Experience Requirements

•Bachelor’s degree in computer science or related field. (or comparable work experience)
•Practical experience developing in .NET.
•Practical experience developing specifically for the web.
•Experience with Flash/ActionScript or Ruby on Rails a plus.

COMPUTER HELP NEEDED
WACHISKA AUDUBON SOCIETY

The Wachiska Audubon Society would like to hire an experienced computer person (UNL graduate student or experienced undergraduate) to uprgrade our chapter’s existing database.

The Wachiska Audubon Society is the local chapter of the National Audubon Society for Lincoln and Southeastern Nebraska.  We are a non-profit conservation organization with approximately 1,000 members and have been in existence since 1973.  Our office is located at: 4547 Calvert, Suite 10, Lincoln, NE 68506. 

We have an existing database format that was created for us approximately four years ago.  The format is based on Microsoft Access and contains information on approximately 3,500 chapter members and past members.  We would like a person to 1) check our database format to make sure that each new member is being added to our fundraising mailing list and fundraising calling list, 2) combine two existing fundraising calling lists into one list and 3) add some additional information blocks on the fundraising calling list.

The current site is in beta, www.americacreates.com. It has been built in a licensed Java application by eOne, www.eonegroup.com.  We will have to work from this platform for about a year and from that experience we would begin building our own site

We want to continually respond to our members and users feedback and usage patterns.  The site must implement all the existing services and look ahead at incorporating other media and web 2.0 functionality.
