About me

I am a Ph.D. candidate at the Department of Computer Science and Engineering, University of Nebraska-Lincoln in USA, supervised by Dr. Hong Jiang. Before that, I received my Master degree from Southeast University, China in 2007 and Bachelor degree from China University of Mining and Technology in 2004, both in computer science. I'm a member of the Abacus Distributed Storage Lab (ADSL) of University of Nebraska-Lincoln.

Education

Ph. D., Computer Engineering, University of Nebraska-Lincoln, USA, GPA: 3.92/4, 09/2007-08/2012(expected)

Dissertation: Improving Performance of Solid State Drives in Enterprise Environment

M.S., Computer Science, Southeast University, China, 09/2004-05/2007

Thesis: Design and Implement of a CORBA Trading Service

B.E., Computer Science, China University of Mining and Technology, China, 09/2000-07/2004

Research

My research interests mainly include Solid State Drive related topics. In particular, my research covers both the black-box approaches and white-box approaches. The white-box approaches include the design of SSD-friendly write buffer, the design of flash translation layer, the design of RAM management algorithm, etc. The black-box approaches include indentifying the performance anomalies of SSD in enterprise environment and the design of SSD-friendly IO scheduler, etc.

Professional Experience

Software engineer intern, VeloBit, Inc., 05/2011-08/2011

An increasing number of industry parties try to utilize SSD as a secondary cache. However, most of them face the problems of deploying SSD in enterprise environment directly. I identified and analyzed the performance anomalies by evaluating various SSDs. Based on the results, it is possible to avoid the performance anomalies in enterprise environment.
