Bio:Tim Trew is a Research Fellow at NXP Semiconductors, Eindhoven, where he focuses on software integration issues. Since 1995 he has been researching many aspects of software integration and testing, from test process improvement to automated test generation and execution, including deployment on many "first-of-a-kind" developments in Philips. A significant theme has been the causes of integration failures, how to test for them and the design approaches that should be adopted to eliminate them. This work has now been exploited in the assessment of the technical risks associated with integrating third-party software. Until 2005, he was responsible for guiding the direction of software testing research in Philips, both in the UK and India.
Tim Trew graduated from the University of Bristol in 1980, whereupon he joined Philips Research Laboratories in the UK, initially working on high definition TV displays, video compression and image analysis and interactive TV, before moving into the software testing area. In 2007 he transferred to the research organisation of NXP Semiconductors (previously Philips Semiconductors). For the last two years he was co-chair of the Software Product Line Testing Workshop (SPLiT), associated with SPLC.
